Can you believe that the summer is nearly over … have you spent lots of time working on making … or like me not done anything the least bit creative.
September is the chance to change that though …
Laney Mead’s GBUK class is running at Tuffnell Glass studio for a very special price to GBUK members on the 29th & 30th September, this class previously sold out at Flame Off this year so don’t miss the opportunity at such a fantastic price … I’d be there if I could 🙁
Here’s the link … get booking!
We are delighted to announce that Laney will be running a two day GBUK class at the Tuffnell Glass studio for a very special price to members. Laney will be teaching on 29th & 30th September 2018
The first day will be spent creating simple heads and bodies, separately. We will concentrate on simple dogs and cats – there will be a chance to discuss other creatures. These can be wired together to create a pendant/dangle at your leisure. We will also talk about how to ‘see’ the bead before even lighting the torch by doodling the simple shapes and working out which pieces need to go in which order to prevent body parts from ‘popping’ off. Heat control is mastered when you make creature beads! You will need a piece of paper/sketch book and either a pencil or a pen. These are not works of art, at best they will look like scribbles but you will understand the scribbles! Honest.
Day two will be a test of nerve as we put together everything we learnt the day before and create a complete creature in one piece. We will discuss how to use the simple shapes we have now mastered to create new creatures simply by changing noses, ears etc, If we have a chance we can play with gravity to create different poses – see Winthrope the Vulture and maybe add ‘friends’ like ladybugs and birds for the creatures to hold.

We are delighted to announce that Jennie Lamb will be running a GBUK class at the Tuffnell Glass studio for a very special price to members
Jennie will be teaching on both 5th & 6th May 2018 and you have the option to book one day or both days.
One of the reasons glass is my medium of choice is its ability to allow a depthof design which is not achievable in most other arts. It is this that keeps mefascinated and absorbed with melting glass. I had my first class in 2009 and have not looked back since and I now work with glass full time.I live on the coast in North Devon, UK on a tidal river estuary and close to the sea and, like a lot of artists, my work is heavily influenced by the ever changing landscapes and tides, the colours and foliage that the seasons bring. It is the three dimensional quality of glass that really fascinates me. My Beads are award winning, one of a kind pieces. Each one is made with love and most are influenced by the coastal area I live and walk in.
You can find out more details of this fantastic opportunity here http://tuffnellglass.com/contents/en-uk/d144_Page_146.html

There wasn’t a winner for Ann & Josh’s glassblowing class so keep your eyes open on our Facebook page for another chance to attend this fascinating class.
GBUK will have a table at Flame Off and as always we need volunteers to run the stand for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will be grateful if anyone going could spare an hour to help out. Please let us know!
Once again we will also be making a limited amount of space available on the stand for members’ beads for sale. These will be taken on a first come, first served basis but anyone volunteering can have their own space (free of charge) to sell beads for the duration of their time on the stand. We will charge £2.50 per ‘slot’, a slot being a square compartment measuring 3 inches square and 1¼ deep. Members may ‘buy’ up to three of these for the duration of the two days.
Beads can be brought straight to Flame Off but the slot would need booking in advance to guarantee your space. Beads need to be tagged with name and price, plus an inventory. To book, please contact email@example.com.
Marshall Hyde will be teaching at Studio 19 on Saturday 23rd March, as a kind of ‘pre-Flame Off warm-up’!
The class is called ‘Designing and Thinking in Glass: Beyond Technique’ or ‘Discover what you already know: How to make the work you always wanted with skills you didn’t know you had’. Definitely something a bit different!
The cost will be a bargain £60. To book a place, please send a £30 deposit to Di, either by paypal to firstname.lastname@example.org or by cheque.
More details can be found on Di’s website: http://www.glass2wear.com/?page_id=561
