Joy Porteous – Meagan Lily Lampwork

My name is Joy Porteous, I am a UK based lampworker and trade under the studio name of Meagan Lily Lampwork. I have been lampworking for 9 years

I first became interested in making my own beads after buying 3 little seashell beads on ebay. They were beautiful and so intriguing I needed to know how they were made. I bought Cindy Jenkins book Making Glass beads, followed by several other books and knew that I HAD to make glass beads.

I started with a Hot Head and a slow cooker as my kiln, six mandrels and a pack of sample glass from Tuffnells. After a few months my lovely, supportive husband bought me a kiln and fitted up a studio in our attic for me.

Since then I have taken lessons with Amanda Muddimer, Anouk Jaspers, Lorna Prime and Corina Tettinger.

In 2008 I moved to a lovely studio in Okehampton, courtesy of Purple Penguins Jewelers where I spent 5 lovely years. Now I teach bead making and sell my work on the internet and from my studio at home on Dartmoor in Devon in the UK.
