Call for submissions

We have all been looking at the proposed content for the Newsletters and Journal, based on the membership feedback in the questionnaire as to what you were looking for from your Society. So I thought I would share this with you and set out how we intend to do this.

Firstly picking out the key educational elements that members are looking for, over 80% ranked these as most important:

  • Soda Glass
  • New Techniques
  • New Tools
  • New Skills
  • Technique Improvement
  • Advanced Techniques

Over 80% of the members who responded also indicated they were willing to submit articles for the Newsletters and we believe we can cater for most of what everyone was looking for within the following standard feature headings that will appear in each edition.

  • Artist Spotlight
  • Technical Forum – how to’s, advanced techniques, top tips to share
  • What’s New - glass, tools, books, suppliers
  • Members Gallery - Great new work of all skill levels

Also we will wish to introduce regular competitions, which might well follow some of the advice in the technical forums.

  • Members Offering Tuition
  • What’s On and Dates
  • GBUK Information Pages including new members
  • Additionally, the Journal will pick up on marketing type issues.

So now comes the point where we need to ask you to submit articles and thoughts, particularly from more established members initially to get us started. These don’t have to be epics - we all lead busy lives, so short ones are OK! Talk to David Palmer if you have any hesitation but would like to try.

We are hoping to produce the Spring 2009 Newsletter shortly.

If you do have articles for submission regarding any of these topics, please contact us Via the contact form

We are all looking forward to reading the first edition of this year!
