Win a place on a class at Flame Off 2018

Artists Class Competition

We are giving our members the opportunity to win a place on the amazing Elizabeth Welch Flame Off class on Thursday the 31st of May 2018.  This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn some wonderful techniques from an amazing glass artist.  You can find full details of the class here on the Tuffnell Glass Website

How to enter:

We would like you to write a tutorial or glass research article for Flame, our magazine.  Tutorials can be anything from “how to do a technique”, to a full-blown “make this bead” tutorial.  Glass research can be on the history of glass or some interesting glass related research.

Simply send us your tutorial or article with good quality pictures by 30th April 2018 to the Chairman.  We’re really looking forward to seeing your entries. Good luck!   If you have already booked a place and win this, your class fee will be refunded.

Taster Class Competition

Would you like to win a place on one of the taster day classes which will be running at the Flame Off 2018?  We have two places available, one place on the BlueberriBeads taster class which can be either Friday 1st or Saturday 2nd June 2018, and one place available on Floriane Lataille taster class which will take place the morning of Friday 1st June 2018.

You can find details of all of the Flame Off taster classes here on the Tuffnell Glass website.

How to enter:

If you want the chance to win a place on either of these classes, then all you need to do is agree to tell us all about your day afterwards in the form of a small article with pictures.  This will be published either it online and/or in Flame our e-mag.  Simply send us an email entitled “Taster class Competition 2018” by 30th April 2018.  Please include your name and which taster class you would prefer to win a place on.

We are looking forward to receiving your entries.  Good luck!  If you have already booked a place and win this, your class fee will be refunded.

Small print

Entrants must be available to attend the class as specified.  No cash equivalent or alternative prize will be offered if entrant is unable to attend the class.  You agree for us to take pictures of you at the class for us to use for publicity purposes.  Winners names will be made public.

All entries will be judged by the GBUK panel and the winners chosen – the judge’s decision is final.  Competition closing dates are midnight the 30th April 2018.  Only one member per household is eligible to enter.

Multiple entries may be submitted in all competitions, but your name will only be entered once per draw.  Committee members are not eligible to enter.  GBUK reserves the right to use any submissions in the future for either publication or promotion of GBUK. What is it?

A system set up to enable less knowledgeable members (Pals) to contact more knowledgeable members (Buddies) to ask questions, discuss lampworking and network.

  • To enable more established lampworkers to pass on knowledge in a private, controlled way.
  • To enable more knowledgeable lampworkers to help pass on tips, tricks and information.
  • To enable new lampworkers to progress with their art without having to recourse to forums (e.g. Facebook/Frit-Happens)
  • A more personal level
  • To help new lampworkers learn without feeling needy or silly.
  • To enable them to grow in confidence
 How it works

The Buddies volunteer to make themselves available to an agreed number of Pals.

The Buddy and the Pal(s) agree how frequent contact is. It is a mutual agreement between both parties.

Type of contact is also to be agreed between Buddy & Pal, be it email, phone, private message or Slack.

It is important that Buddies privacy and the days/times agreed on are respected.

It is important that Pals are respected regarding the questions they ask e.g. no question is too basic.

 How do I sign up?

Contact secretary if you are interested in being a Buddy or a Pal.
